How to Make Bacon Salt

Bacon SaltAhh I love bacon…OK, only on occasion and primarily to add flavor to dishes like pancake syrup (yes, seriously!) and homemade gelato (yes, seriously!!). My bacon salt recipe is one of Wishful Chef’s most popular posts, and I think for good reason. It’s easy to make and allows you to have a little taste of bacon on things like chips, popcorn, tater tots or even cookies! Just in time for Superbowl Sunday!

If you love the taste of bacon and wish everything tasted like it, then this recipe is for you! Bacon salt is a simple seasoning that can bring so much flavor to a dish. And sorry to mislead you with the title but I actually used prosciutto to make the ‘bacon’ salt. I prefer using prosciutto slices because of their delicate and intense flavor. They’re paper thin, not as fatty and get extremely crisp and flaky after they’re baked. But if you don’t have prosciutto, bacon works just as well.

Homemade Oven Roasted Tater Tots

Homemade Tater Tots
Why have I waited so long to make homemade tater tots? They’re SO much better than the frozen ones you buy at the store. I knew from the moment I was assembling them that this recipe would be a winner. These tater tots are perfectly fluffy on the inside and golden brown and crisp on the outside. Plus they’re healthier, baked and not fried with only a handful of ingredients: potatoes, olive oil, salt and pepper.

Berry Chia Seed Pudding
I enjoy a nice hearty breakfast but ever since we got back from our food-fueled holiday trip to Europe I’ve been eating lighter morning meals. Flourless Peanut Butter Chocolate Brownies

Flourless Peanut Butter Chocolate Brownies

I let my husband try one before me and he was speechless, it’s seriously that good. These brownies are made with almond meal (yes, they are gluten-free!) but my special ingredient is chocolate peanut butter (Amazon Affiliate link). You have to try this out, chocolate peanut butter is so delicious and works really well in brownies.

Easy Veggie Balls with Mushrooms and Carrots

Veggie Balls
This past holiday my husband and I went to visit his family in Germany and boy did we eat! I love all the German Christmas food like roast goose, gingerbread cake and vanilla crescent cookies, but we realized this indulgence could not last forever! So for the first post of 2014 I decided to make an easy vegetarian “meatball” recipe with mushrooms and carrots. We really needed something healthy to put us back on track.

Here’s to a happy and healthy New Year!
