It’s been a while since my last green smoothie post. Kale is one of my favorite ingredients in a green smoothie because it’s packed with vitamins and fiber, and lowers your blood sugar, promotes regular digestion and curbs overeating. And since kale leaves have a tough exterior, be sure to blend the mixture on the highest speed until nice and smooth. Serve chilled with optional ice cubes for a healthy summer drink!

Lacinato Kale Green Smoothie with Mango and Orange

Kale, one of the healthiest greens out there is perfect to use in a smoothie. I typically use curly kale but this time I blended Lacinato or Tuscan kale, of the dinosaur kale variety. A little history lesson: Lacinato kale, enjoyed by the Romans, has been grown in Italy for centuries and is used in much of Italian cuisine. The taste is also a bit milder and sweeter than curly kale, perfect for a morning green smoothie!
Ginger Green Smoothie with Apples and Kale Leaves

Using kale leaves in a green smoothie may be a bit unpalatable for some people. So to make the flavor more forgiving, I added a few apples and fresh ginger root. Ginger is incredibly healthy, packed with vitamins and minerals and studies show that ginger can even relieve nausea during pregnancy.

Kale is an excellent addition to green smoothies because it’s packed with vitamins and nutrients like beta carotene, vitamin C and fiber. The flavor of kale in green smoothies is strong, so I suggest using less kale in the beginning and then adding more when it’s palatable to your taste.
