Easy Tofu Fries Recipe

Easy Tofu FriesI don’t cook a lot with tofu, but recently started experimenting more with it in soups and stir-fries. And as always, I bought way too much so I wanted to see what else you can do with tofu. Tofu fries may sound a bit odd to some folks, but they came out really nice and crispy. Preparing these fries is super easy making this a 10-minute dish.

To add more flavor, I recommend making a spice mix to season the tofu fries and to serve them with your favorite condiments. I topped mine with a mix of salt, pepper, cayenne and fresh herbs. For the dipping sauce I mixed mayonnaise and a dash of cayenne pepper to make it even spicier.

Make sure to use firm tofu for this recipe

Slice tofu into 1/4-inch pieces and lay out on paper towels.

Press down with paper towels and thoroughly dry the tofu slices.

Slice tofu into fry strips.

Fry tofu in oil until golden brown & crispy. Make sure to separate fries so they don't stick together.

Place fries on paper towels to catch excess oil & sprinkle with seasoning.

Easy Tofu Fries Recipe

  • 1 package firm tofu packed in water
  • 3-4 teaspoons salt
  • 2 teaspoons black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper, or to taste
  • 2 tablespoons fresh herbs, chopped (parsley, oregano, rosemary)
  • oil, for frying

Slice tofu into 1/4-inch slices and place on paper towels and thoroughly dry. Then slice into fry-shaped strips.

In a small bowl, mix together salt, pepper and cayenne. Set aside.

In a pan, heat about 1.5 inches of oil to 350°F. Carefully place tofu strips into hot oil. Do this in batches if your pot isn’t large enough. Do not let tofu touch each other because they will stick together while frying. Cook for about 3 minutes or until crispy. Remove from oil and place on paper towels to catch excess oil.

When they’re still hot, sprinkle seasoned salt and fresh herbs. Serve with your favorite condiments.
