Puff Pastry Sticks Two Ways – Sweet and Savory

Puff Pastry SticksI’ve never cooked much with puff pastry until recently. My vegetable pot pies really won me over. Since they were such a success, I’ve been experimenting with store-bought puff pastry more and decided to make a quick sweet and savory snack.

I didn’t specify amounts in my two recipes and just sprinkled the puff pastry strips with different herbs and spices. For the sweet puff pastry sticks I used cocoa, cinnamon and vanilla sugar which was perfect for an afternoon coffee break. For the savory, I used grated emmentaler cheese leftover from my recent spaetzle recipe. These pastry sticks are so quick and easy to make, great for entertaining a crowd if you’re short on time.

Slice puff pastry into strips and sprinkle with sweet or savory seasonings. Bake for about 15 minutes.

Serve the pastry sticks with your favorite condiments.

Cinnamon Sugar and Cocoa Puff Pastry Sticks Recipe

  • coconut oil or butter, melted
  • sugar or vanilla sugar

  • cocoa powder, to taste

Cheese and Oregano Puff Pastry Sticks Recipe

  • puff pastry dough, cut into 1/8-inch strips
  • olive oil
  • grated emmentaler or parmesan cheese
  • dried oregano, thyme or rosemary
  • garlic powder
  • salt and pepper, to taste

Heat oven to 350°F. Cut pastry dough into thin strips (or preferred shape).

For sweet pastry sticks: Place strips on baking sheet and brush with coconut oil then sprinkle with sugar, cinnamon and cocoa powder. Bake for about 10-15 minutes until puffed and golden. Serve with apple sauce, ice cream or whipped cream.

For savory pastry sticks: Place strips on baking sheet and brush with olive oil then sprinkle with grated cheese, dried herbs, garlic powder, salt and pepper. Bake for about 10-15 minutes until puffed and golden. Serve with tomato sauce or your favorite dip.

    Total Time: 15-20 minutes
Yield: 15-20 sticks (depending on puff pastry size)
